  • YEAR 2005 was Japania ry:s 3rd year of activity. [Founded in 2002. Activities started 1.1.2003. Associations Register No. 184916].
  • MEMBERS: Nearly 1 000 members at the beginning of the year and over 1 200 at the end of the year. 10 honorary members. 27 corporate members at the beginning of the year and 40 at the end of the year.
  • MEETINGS: Regular meetings were held in Stadia (Bulevardi 31, Helsinki); spring meeting (Thu 17.3.) / 12 participants and autumn meeting (Thu 8.12.) / 7 participants
  • BOARD: convened 11 times during the year.

    4. CLUB ACTIVITIES, altogether 17 times/ 160 participants
      4.1 Japanese poetry club 9 times /100 participants (Library at Rikhardinkatu, 8; Villa Kivi, 1)
      • Club master: Wili Leikola. 8 permanent club members. Results: 'Feelings and moods' -poems (May Appendix of Fin-Nippon -bulletin No. 3/2005) and 'Haiku of the week' at the internet www.japania.org (updated once a week).
      • Own publications '[One hundred poets, one hundred poems, translated by Wili Leikola, Jari Sutinen and Juhani Tikkanen; Birgitta Tikkanen 'Elän tässä, nyt (I live here, now); Riitta Rossilahti: 'Kivi virrassa' in English 'A Stone in a River']; Riitta Rossilahti received a haiku-reward from Japan.
      • The guest speaker in Villa Kivi (Wed 11.5.) was Arto Lappi, a poet from Tampere.
      4.2 J-raku animeclub 8 times / 60 participants (Library 10)
      • Established in August; meetings run by Ulla Koskivirta. 5-10 members in meetings, 45 in e-mail lists. Results: Logo, preparations for a J-raku publication.
      4.3 Other clubs: Kanji club / Club master Heikki Mallat (convened in connection with language courses); Sashiko-sewing club /Club master Merja Aaltonen (on a break); The founding of the new Sake club was transferred from autumn 2005 until later.
    5. LANGUAGE COURSES & CULTURE 5 times (150 lessons) / 120 participants

      - The Japania marketplace can also be found in the internet.
    8. LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICE: The library was closed due to lack of space; Executive director Heikki Mallat has taken care of information service by e-mail, phone, letter and during open door days.
